The wet weather postponement for a week had the Westpac Football Mid North Coast 15 years State Youth League side travel to Darling Street Oval in Newcastle on Sunday for the Grand Final Showdown with Newcastle with FMNC going down 3-0.

The week off enabled the playing surface to recover from the weather and was in near perfect condition for the match. FMNC started strongly, defending solidly to nullify most of Newcastle's attacking options while at the other end Blake Clarke and Tahwa Bowden were proving difficult for the Newcastle defence.

Both FMNC and Newcastle had chances with probably the best falling FMNC's way and with a bit off luck and stronger finishing FMNC could have been 1 or 2 goals up. Bowden and Tom Griffin both had good chances but were denied by the Newcastle keeper. After a good build up of play FMNC midfielder Jarrod Kohler received the ball on the edge of area and blasted a low drive leaving the Newcastle keeper with no chance only to see his shot cannon back off the post to deny a goal.

Newcastle went ahead just before half time and again just after half time before Newcastle scored a late 3rd goal to clinch the title. FMNC were gallant in defeat even especially after also going down in the season decider last season and look back on a very successful couple of season playing in the State Youth League which given these players from our region guaranteed high level football week in, week out, year in, year out.

The Westpac state youth league 13s, 14s & 15 sides celebrate the season with the Presentation being held next Sunday in Taree at the Manning River Sailing Club.

Trials are being held for the 2009 State Youth League sides this Sunday in both Kempsey and Forster.

Next seasons competition will be played under a changed format with two competitions in one with a State Championship and a Regional Youth League being contested.

The Westpac Football Mid North Coast State Youth League 15 year's side earned a Grand Final berth after an exciting 2-1 win over Macquarie last Saturday.

FMNC now take on Newcastle this Sunday at Darling Street Oval, Hamilton in the season decider.

After coming so close in 2007 as runners up to Macquarie, FMNC showed plenty of determination in its semi final win scoring early in the game with a contender for goal of the season.

FMNC stretched the Macquarie defense and went close with an Adrian Walker free kick hitting the cross bar. The breakthrough came with a diagonal cross from the right flank to the far side of the penalty area finding Blake Clark who smashed from a very narrow angle a screaming volley into the roof of the net, sensationally putting FMNC 1-0 up.

Macquarie hit back applying pressure during the second half and equalized from the penalty spot. Normal time ending with the score locked at 1-1 sending the match into extra time. With momentum again turning FMNCs way with the deciding goal coming when Tom Griffin burst into the Macquarie penalty area with his shot taking a deflection into the path of team mate Brendan Berry who made no mistake from close range.

FMNC held on for the dying moments earning the right to contest the decider. The Westpac sponsored side head into Sundays Grand Final quietly confident of a positive result against the fancied Newcastle side.

Unfortunately Westpac FMNC 14s bowed out of contention in its semi final last Saturday losing 4-0 to Newcastle. Conceding an early own goal had FMNC playing catch up with Newcastle scoring again before half time and two further goals in the second half. FMNC put in a huge effort but were outclassed on the day.

Sudden Death Semis for Westpac FMNC

The Westpac Football Mid North Coast State Youth league 14 & 15s head into sudden death semi final football on Saturday.

With both sides finishing in 3rd spot on the points table FMNC take on the second place sides in a do or die clash - the winner advancing to next weeks Grand Final and the loser to start planning for 2009.

In the 15s Westpac FMNC will be up against Macquarie in a replay of last years Grand Final but this time around only the winner will make the decider. FMNC hold a pretty good record in previous match ups with Macquarie with both sides evenly matched. This game would be worthy of a final and is sure to be very keenly contested, FMNC look to have most of it's squad available leading into the game which is a huge plus although the 15s have been well supported by players who have stepped up from the younger age teams in past weeks.

The Westpac 14s held 3rd spot for most of the season and despite losing in the last round match maintain its position on the ladder which is a great achievement for this side and now take on Newcastle in the 2v3 semi final. Newcastle will be huge favourites to win and grab a spot in the Grand Final and may underestimate the FMNC underdogs who aim to produce an upset result. If FMNC can field a full strength side who knows what might happen in the sudden death football.

A huge bonus for FMNC is that both sides will contest their respective semis at the same venue - Thomas Coffey Park in Weston.

Last Sunday Westpac FMNC completed round 20 of the competition against Central Coast Thunder at the Budgewoi soccer complex with mixed results on the day.

A solid 2-0 win for the Westpac 15s with both goals coming from Blake Clark, earlier in the day Clark's younger bother Ryan scored a screamer in the FMNC 13s 4-2 loss to the Thunder. The FMNC 14s dominated the 1st half of it's match but bombed too many chances before the Thunder grabbed 2 second half goals, with Nick Infield scoring for FMNC for a final score of 2-1 to the Thunder.

FMNC semi final draw:

15s - FMNC Vs Macquarie: 1.30pm kick off - Thomas Coffey Park, Weston

Westpac FMNC to consolidate positions

Westpac Football Mid North Coast state youth league sides head into Sunday's last round of competition with two of of its sides guaranteed semi final spots.

Both the 14s and 15s sides are in the top four while the 13s side can get to equal fourth with a win on Sunday but will miss out on for and against.

This Sunday the Westpac FMNC take on Central Coast Thunder at Budgewoi, from all reports a high quality facility which should enhance the Mid North Coast's chances to take home points.

Last Sunday, an injury and illness depleted Westpac FMNC 13s went down fighting to Hunter Valley, at one stage due to a couple of serious injuries FMNC were down to nine players and finally completed the match in a brave effort losing 3-0.

The Westpac FMNC 14s secured a top four finish with a 1-1 draw with Hunter Valley. FMNC also hampered with illness struck early on with Blake Barnes-Riddell finishing nicely after good lead up play from Nick Infield. The Valley struck back when awarded a penalty during the first half. FMNC 13s goalkeeper Thomas Rienstra filling in for the 14s put on a very impressive display in goals.

In a day for goalkeepers Westpac FMNC 15s keeper Kyle Predabon kept Hunter Valley at bay making numerous saves in his sides 0-0 draw. FMNC also had plenty of chances but the Valley keeper was also in fine form to deny FMNC.

Westpac FMNC back on Home Soil

After a few weeks on the road Football Mid North Coast's Westpac State Youth league sides return to local soil on Sunday for its final home game of the season. FMNC host Hunter Valley at Wayne Richards Park, Port Macquarie in Sunday's fixtures with results in all three grades having a huge bearing on semi final aspirations.

The Westpac 13s are equal 4th with Hunter Valley and with semi finals only a fortnight away, points are crucial. Last weekend the Westpac 13s played out a 1-1 draw with Central Coast Thunder on Saturday and then backed up on Sunday with a 2-0 loss to Macquarie and despite the loss produced some of it's best football for the season which is an encouraging sign heading into Sundays match.

A 2-1 win and a 2-0 loss for the Westpac 14s last weekend still has the side holding down 3rd spot with a narrow 2 point lead over Hunter Valley. This match up on Sunday could make or break the season for both sides and it is vital for FMNC to gain maximum points.

The Westpac 15s consolidated its top four spot with a 4-2 and 2-0 win last weekend and now battle with Hunter Valley for position on the ladder. A huge plus for FMNC is the fact with a number of injuries, players from the 13s & 14s have stepped up to assist the 15s with the younger brigade also getting on the score sheet.

Last Weeks FMNC Results -
13s - FMNC 1 (Corey Nash) Vs Central Coast Thunder 1
13s - FMNC 0 Vs Macquarie 2
14s - FMNC 2 (David Bourne, Adam Whyte) Vs Central Coast Thunder 1
14s - FMNC 0 Vs Macquarie 2
15s - FMNC 4 (Blake Clarke, David Bourne, Matt Moore, David Miolo) Vs Central Coast Thunder 2
15s - FMNC 2 (Blake Clarke, Matt Moore) Vs Macquarie 0

WESTPAC FMNC SYL take on Thunder and Macquarie

Road trips continue for the Westpac Football Mid North Coast State Youth League sides with a double header weekend scheduled again.

The previous rescheduled washed out fixture against the Central Coast is set to be played on Saturday on the Central Coast and FMNC back up for its Round 18 against Macquarie Football at Speers Point 24 hours later on Sunday.

With only four rounds including this weekends double header remaining before the semis, things are getting really tight on the points table in all grades.

The Westpac FMNC 13 years sit in fourth spot heading into the weekend while the 14 years side hold down 3rd sport and the 15 years are fourth.

Crucial for all 3 sides to get points on the road this weekend.

Last Sunday Westpac FMNC met Newcastle away in Newcastle with the 13's on the wrong end of a 5-1 scoreline. Newcastle won the 14s encounter 3-0 while the 15s went down 5-2 to Newcastle.

WESTPAC FMNC SYL hit the road looking for points

The Westpac Football Mid North Coast state youth league sides head into a tough couple of weeks starting this Sunday tackling competition leaders in all three age groups, Newcastle. A tough roadtrip this sunday to Newcastle's Edden Oval and the following Sunday again down the Pacific highway to meet Macquarie.

Last Sunday the Westpac FMNC sides hosted Northern Inland with both the 13s & 15 securing wins while the 14's were held to a nil all draw.

The Northern inland clash represented the start of final quarter of the season and at this point all of the FMNC sides maintain spot in the top four.

A well deserved 2-0 win with goals from Jye Castellano and Liam Clarke has the Westpac 13s side in fourth spot heading into Sundays clash.

The Westpac 14s dominated possession and created numerous chances to score and defended well to limited Northern Inlands chances with neither side able to break the deadlock - an entertaining nil all draw.

An impressive 4-0 victory went the Westpac 15s way with some solid finishing the highlight of the match. In form Jarred Kohler yet again was on the score sheet with a powerful header, then midfielder Matt Moore struck with a shot sneaking under the keeper. A screamer from Chad Applegate with a blistering shot from outside the box for a 3-0 lead and then playing up from the 14s Blake Barnes-Riddell managed what he couldn't in his earlier game finding the back of the net with a delicate header.

The Westpac FMNC sides were also scheduled to play the washed out fixture against Central Coast Thunder last Saturday but yet again the weather forced another wash out with game to be rescheduled to a date to be fixed.

Double Header for Westpac FMNC

A big weekend ahead for the Westpac Football Mid North Coast State Youth league sides as they travel to Gosford on Saturday for the rematch postponed game with Central Coast Thunder and then take on Northern inland on Sunday in Port Macquarie.

FMNC took on Thunder last Sunday and now face off again tomorrow against the Central Coast outfit. With only a six day turn around and a big road trip in front of FMNC the odds appear to be in Thunders favour. FMNC need to secure points on Saturday and recopuerate solidly to back up against the physical Nothern Inland for Sundays matches.

Representative Football returned to the Taree last Sunday when the Westpac Football Mid North Coast State Youth league sides met Central Coast Thunder at the Taree recreation ground.

The FMNC home sides came away with a win, draw and loss from the three encounters.

The Westpac FMNC 13s took the field first in a must win scenario looking to break into the top four and started the game strong and dominated for most of the first half and after a number of near misses. FMNC hit the lead when Callan Lewis threaded a nice ball through for Jye Castellano to out pace the Thunder defense and neatly finish off for a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately FMNC conceded a couple of soft goals with defensive lapses that saw the Thunder grab a 3-1 win.

After four consecutive losses the Westpac FMNC 14s were also desperate to gain maximum points against Thunder with a view to regain 3rd spot on the ladder. A very committed FMNC took the game to the Thunder and in an entertaining match FMNC created more chances and should have scored at least two goals before finally finding the back of the net from the penalty spot. David Bourne stepped up to blast his spot kick into the roof of the net. FMNC went 2-0 up midway in the 2nd half after yet another good build up but a good save from Thunders keeper denied FMNC. From the ensuing corner FMNC's Sarah O'Connor made no mistake to score with a well taken shot.

In the Westpac FMNC 15s match it looked like FMNC would run away with the match with a comfortable 2-0 lead before Thunder scored twice to level and grab a 2-2 draw. Thunder had its goalkeeper sent off late in the game and with ten men managed to hold out FMNC. Blake Clark again showed his goal scoring prowess scoring FMNCs 1st goal and then Matt Moore got his name on the score sheet for FMNCs 2nd goal. Thunder were denied two certain goals during the second half with two unbelievable athletic saves, firstly FMNC defender Jarred Kohler somehow produced a bicycle style clearance before keeper Kyle Predabon dived at full stretch to claw away to keep his side in the contest.

WESTPAC FMNC SYL aim to silence Thunder *New KO times

Please Note: Kick off times for Sunday 20th have been put back 1 hour.
New KO times - 13yrs 11.00am, 14yrs 12.30pm, 15yrs 2.00pm

After securing maximum points in 2 out the 3 games last Sunday against Hunter Valley the Westpac Football Mid North Coast state youth league sides now take on Central Coast Thunder this Sunday.

FMNC recently gained approval to move Sunday's fixture against the Thunder to the Manning Representative ground in Taree to help promote the SYL competition throughout the entire Zone.

All 3 of the Westpac FMNC sides cannot afford to take the Thunder lightly who remain competitive despite the positions on the points table.

The Westpac FMNC 13s put on a gutsy display with the bare eleven players to hold out Hunter Valley to win 2-1 in a very physical encounter. FMNC led 2-0 with goals from Callan Lewis and Jye Castellano before Hunter scored a consolation goal. Lewis scored after he pounced on a loose ball close to goal and Castellano continued on with his goal scoring feats for his side's winner.

Having a player sent off after conceding what many thought to be a soft penalty, really put the Westpac FMNC 14s on the back foot. After dominating long periods in the first half FMNC went a goal down from the penalty early in the 2nd half and struggled with 10 players for most of the 2nd half to finish stronger than Hunter Valley but were unable to grab an equaliser. A crucial match this Sunday for the FMNC 14s.

A much needed confidence building win for the Westpac FMNC 15s scoring a 3-1 win over Hunter Valley. Still suffering from a bad run of injuries the FMNC 15s has a number of the 14s squad backing up from their own game. Tahwa Bowden hassled the Hunter defence into an error then pounced to grab the lead 1-0 for FMNC.

In form defender Jarred Kohler was next to find the back of the net for FMNC after a well timed run into the box to meet the ball from a corner to finish sweetly for a 2-0 lead. FMNC went 3-0 up when Blake Clark out paced the defence and with a neat finish finding the back of the net. Hunter scored late in the match with the result already FMNC's way.

WESTPAC FMNC SYL take on Hunter Valley

After a couple of very lean weeks as far as results go the Westpac Football Mid North Coast State Youth League sides are hoping for better fortunes this Sunday.

FMNC head to Cessnock to take on Hunter Valley who FMNC last met in a double header weekend a few weeks ago.

The Westpac FMNC 13's put in another encouraging performance in last Sundays loss to Macquarie and is in a must win situation to remain in touch for semi final contention.

As with the 13's the Westpac 14s also need to get maximum points against Hunter Valley who sit just behind FMNC on the table. A loss this Sunday would see Hunter leapfrog FMNC into 3rd spot, so again a crucial match up for FMNC.

FMNC's Westpac 15's are also in danger of dropping off the pace unless they come up with the points on Sunday. FMNC unfortunately are still missing players through injury and must dig deep to get a result.

A huge task sits in front on the FMNC sides this Sunday and now more than ever need all the support they can get, some positive attitude and support is much needed to boost the Mid North Coast's prospects for the remainder of the season.

FMNC's next home game on Sunday week 20th July against Central Coast Thunder has been transferred to Manning Rep field in Taree in assist in promoting representative football throughout the FMNC Zones boundaries.

3rd July 2008
WESTPAC FMNC SYL at home to Macquarie

The Westpac FMNC SYL side had a barren week in last Sundays games with Newcastle going down in all grades.

This Sunday doesn't get any easier with Macquarie heading to Port Macquarie to take on the Westpac FMNC sides at Wayne Richards Park.

FMNC 13s competed strongly but found the going tough against Newcastle last week going down 5-0 and need a strong showing aginst Macquarie who sit in 1st place.

A 4-0 result to Newcastle doesn’t do justice to the closeness of the FMNC 14s match last Sunday. With a scoreline locked at Nil all midway through the second half FMNC fell in a hole to concede 4 late goals and again must find something special for the Macquarie encounter.

The Westpac FMNC 15s went down 2-0 in a close fought contest last Sunday with Newcastle scoring in each half. Sundays match up with Macquarie is again expected to be close encounter.

After playing four out of the last five match away The Westpac FMNC State Youth League sides once again are back on home soil this Sunday against Newcastle who sit in top spot in 14 and 15 years and 2nd spot in the 13s.

As always Newcastle will pose tough opposition for the Westpac FMNC sides.

The Westpac 15s climbed back into the winners circle with an emphatic 7-0 win over Northern Inland last Sunday at Tamworth. FMNC bombarded the Inland defence with attack after attack but couldn't find its way past the opposition keeper. Finally a pinpoint cross was met with a full bodied volley from Jarred Kohler blasting into the net. FMNC then went on with the job with a resounding victory. Sunday will be a different story against the pacesetting Newcastle side with FMNC needing to be at it's best to get the points.

Last Sunday's disappointing 2-1 loss to Northern Inland has the Westpac FMNC 14s keen to take on 1st place Newcastle. In the two previous encounters FMNC have lost to Newcastle but each match was very keenly contested. Against Inland last weekend the FMNC side dominated for long periods of the match but just couldn't convert its chances into goals with the exception of nice finish by Alex Ihlow midway through the 1st half. Inland equalised just after and then scored in the second half with FMNC blowing numerous chances to equalise.

A well deserved 3-2 victory to the Westpac FMNC 13s over the in form Northern Inland side has boosted the side's confidence leading into Sunday's clash with Newcastle. A under strength FMNC suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Newcastle and FMNC need to show the same determination from last weeks win to put it to Newcastle. FMNC hit the lead early on from Jye Castellano against Inland only to concede a soft goal immediately after. Inland scored again to lead 2-1. Castellano had another shot blocked with FMNC strike partner Dean Rounsevell pouncing on the loose ball to put FMNC back on level terms 2-2. The second half was a real arm wrestle with neither side giving an inch and with the last kick of the game Rounsevell was again on the spot to capitalise on good lead up work from Castellano for FMNC to snatch a late winner.

Last Round Results:
13 Years Boys:
Newcastle 5 Hunter Valley 0
Northern Inland 3 Mid North Coast 3
Central Coast 2 Macquarie 5

14 Years Boys:

   Sundays opponents Northern Inland.

Again with weather interrupted preparation The Westpac Football Mid North Coast State Youth League shape up for the trip over the mountain to take on Northern Inland on Sunday in Tamworth.

Unfortunately the Westpac FMNC sides games with Central Coast Thunder last Sunday was washed out and now has to be rescheduled hopefully to a midweek game during the upcoming school holidays.

This Sunday's opponents did play last week with wins in the 13s and 14s and a loss in the 15s to Hunter Valley.

The Westpac FMNC 13s have drawn and lost to Northern Inland in the two previous encounters and again with not much between the two sides a close match in again expected.

A solid 7-0 1st round win and then a 4-4 draw has the Westpac FMNC 14s on it's guard coming into this round fully aware of the dangerous attack of the Inland side. If FMNC can contain Inlands attack a positive result should go its way.

Last Sundays wash out provided a blessing is some ways for the Westpac FMNC 15s with a number of players still recuperating from injuries. If FMNC can overcome the recent injury enforced form slump it should prove too strong for the Inland side. The two previous matches have both been wins for the FMNC outfit.

WESTPAC FMNC SYL take on Central Coast Thunder

Game Postponed due to Wet Weather - Rescheduled match to be confirmed

After a break for the long weekend the Westpac Football Mid North Coast State Youth League sides take on Central Coast Thunder with another road trip into Thunder territory with the match scheduled for Pluim Park at Lisarow on the Central Coast.

The Westpac FMNC 15s are in 4th spot and in a bit of a form slump attributed to the injury toll experienced by the side. The week off should dramatically assist FMNC getting players back on the park in search of a much need win. The Thunder are hovering just behind FMNC so a win is crucial.

Third versus last is the match up in the 14 years match with the Westpac FMNC side looking to consolidate third spot but must not take the Thunder lightly who surprisingly are at the foot of the table. FMNC must take it's recent good form into the match and even lift it's performance again to take the points.

The Westpac FMNC 13s come off its last matches with a win and a loss and are keen to put it to the Thunder. A win for the FMNC side will lift it to equal fifth with the Thunder and in striking distance of fourth spot.

4th June 2008
WESTPAC FMNC SYL enjoy a break

The long week end break has the Westpac Football mid north Coast state youth league sides enjoying a break after a gruelling double header last weekend. After a weeks break FMNC will hit the road again to take Central Coast Thunder on Sunday week.

Last weekend the Westpac FMNC sides played a double header match up with Hunter Valley, firstly on the Saturday at Turner Park, Cessnock and then the next day back on home soil in Port Macquarie.

The Turner Park facility was in excellent shape for the Saturday fixture and despite a heavy fog covering the area, the 13's kicked off in humid conditions. The Westpac FMNC 13's went a goal down early on but fought back with two well taken goals from Jai Castellano before Hunter equalised before half time.

The very physical Hunter side threw everything at FMNC during the second have and FMNC weathered the Valley onslaught and scored two second half goals, Castellano getting his hat trick and then fellow striker Dean Rounsevell scoring the 4th to seal FMNC's first win of the season with a 4-2 scoreline.

A cool Sunday morning greeted Hunter Valley to Port Macquarie for return match up in the 13s and with both sides creating numerous chances another goal feast was on the cards. Unfortunately poor finishing saw both sides scoreless until the dying minutes of the match which saw Hunter Valley sneak two late goals for a 2-0 win.

Westpac FMNC 14s entered the double header weekend determined to get maximum points from the encounters. FMNC again started slowly providing a number of half chances to its Hunter Valley counterparts but with some desperation defending from FMNC lead by Josh Phillips held Hunter out. At the midway point of the first half FMNC were awarded a free kick, Midfielder Mitch Yarnold stepped up and coolly curled hit shot around the defensive wall into the bottom corner of the net to see FMNC lead 1-0. FMNC knuckled down during the second half to graft out a confidence building 1-0 win.

Expecting more of the same on the Sunday the Westpac FMNC 14's again got off to the usual slow start and gradually played it's way into the match and started creating a number of half chances and then finally after around twenty minutes a clever ball from midfield in behind the Hunter Valley defence saw FMNC striker Adam Whyte pounce to coolly slot home his first ever goal at SYL level. This seemed to lift FMNC who went 2-0 up with an Adrian Futterlieb free kick found Blake Barnes-Riddell who calmly controlled the ball before driving a well placed shot into the back of the net.

Again the FMNC defence and keeper Grant Bulloch held firm to deny Hunter Valley. FMNC rounded off a third goal with a cross from Yarnold was fumbled by the Hunter keeper for Alex Ilhow to tap in from close range. This win consolidated 3rd spot from the moment for FMNC and a handy 6 point buffer over the Valley.

In an at times physical match the Westpac FMNC 15's held on to grab a point with a 1-1 draw with Hunter valley on the Saturday. Both sides missed opportunities which seemed to fuel the emotions and physicalness of the match. FMNC hit the lead with Reece Rayner converting from a dot shot. Almost immediately Hunter was awarded a penalty of its own much to the bemusement of the FMNC side. Hunter weren't able to capitalise pushing its spot kick wide of the goal. With the last kick of the game Hunter scored to equalise 1-1.

The bruising Saturday encounter took it's toll on the FMNC 15s side who entered Sundays return bout down on numbers and bolstered with a subs bench from the 14s side. The overnight turn around proved too short a time and FMNC looked decidedly flat, Hunter Valley capitalised and was 2-0 up at half time which had FMNC playing catch up for the rest of the match. The Final 2-0 scoreline to Hunter Valley keeps them ahead of FMNC on the points table

WESTPAC FMNC SYL Busy Weekend

The Westpac Football Mid North Coast State Youth leagues sides are on the road again the weekend with a catch up match versus Hunter Valley on Saturday in Cessnock and then both the Hunter and FMNC meet again on Sunday in Port Macquarie.

The last two rounds saw the Westpac FMNC failing to gain any points in any grade in the two trips south against Newcastle and Macquarie.

Both days will be crucial for the Westpac FMNC squads and the Hunter based sides, if any of the sides in any of the ages groups can gain get the maximum points from both games it really could provide a much needed buffer on the points table.

In each age division FMNC & Hunter Valley are neck and neck, In the 15's FMNC need to get back to its winning ways which had it on top of the table a couple weeks ago but with 2 losses on the trot Hunter Valley have edged ahead. A number of injuries from the past 2 weeks have knocked the FMNC 15s form & again this week the side may be again stretched.

The 14 years has FMNC and Hunter Valley locked on equal points so again the opportunity is in FMNC's hands to lift and consolidated third spot and the ladder. Like the FMNC 15's the 14's also have a few injury concerns and some poor form to overcome leading into the double header.

The Westpac 13s really have a good chance to lift itself off the bottom of the ladder and should need no other motivation and a much needed win would boost the side's confidence. A big plus for the FMNC 13's is the fact they may well have a full compliment of players fit and raring to go header in the weekends games.

WESTPAC FMNC SYL take on Newcastle

The Westpac Football Mid North Coast Youth League sides hit the road for a clash with Newcastle on Sunday.

After six rounds the FMNC Westpac 15 year's side sits on top of the table with a one point lead over Sunday's rivals. The Newcastle side coming of a win will be looking to grab top spot off the FMNC side. A hard fought but commanding 3-1 over Northern Inland has the Mid North Coast side looking good coming into this encounter but there is some concern over player availability due to injuries.

Last Sundays 3-1 win over Northern Inland had FMNC graft out a win with first half goals coming from a Matthew Moore header and a super strike from Tahwa Bowden before Tom Griffins sealed the game with a late third goal before Inland scored a late consolation.

In an 8 goal thriller last week the Westpac 14's clawed its way from behind to salvage a 4-4 draw with Northern Inland and now take on 1st placed Newcastle. FMNC will need to be at its best against the competition leaders who only narrowly beat FMNC 2-1 they last met. The 14s conceded two early goals against Inland before edging back to level at 2-2 with two goals from striker Nick Infield. Inland scored a 3rd then FMNC's Blake Barnes-Riddell equalised, Inland then went ahead 4-3 before Infield again equalised. FMNC looked to have grabbed a late 5th goal but unfortunately it was ruled offside. FMNC will need all of its fighting spirit this Sunday and are also battling with injuries and unavailability.

The Westpac 13's are edging ever closer to its first win of the season but again bad luck and superb finishing from Northern Inland denied FMNC the points last Sunday.

Inland score first with a screamer of a free kick, then Jye Castellano equalised with header from an Aaron Grose corner. Moments later FMNC went behind when Inland where awarded a penalty to lead 2-1 at half time. Inland scored a third again from a well struck free kick before Grose pounced to pull one back for FMNC.

All being well the FMNC 13s may well field its full complement of players this Sunday against Newcastle which will be a huge boost for the side.

WESTPAC FMNC SYL v Northern Inland

Football Mid North Coast's Westpac state youth league sides take on Northern Inland at Wayne Richards Park in Port Macquarie this Sunday.

This weeks Round six games mark the quarter point of the season for the Westpac FMNC outfits with all three sides needing to make the most of the home ground advantage to gain maximum points.

A 3-3 draw for the Westpac 15 years side has it pushing for top spot just a couple of points away in second on the ladder. In its 1st round encounter with Northern Inland the 15s got off to a good start with a 3-0 win. FMNC fought had for the 3-3 draw last week and need to find its normal fluent passing game.

The Westpac 14 year's side come of a solid win last Sunday but cannot get too carried away and needs to produce an even more committed performance against a Northern Inland side looking to avenge the 7-0 defeat suffered to FMNC in round one.

With only a draw to its tally from the 1st round match with Northern Inland the Westpac 13's will be looking for its first win of the season. FMNC need to remain positive and continue to compete and take its chances when on offer. A win for FMNC will be a huge confidence boost.

Last Weeks Match Reports:
13 Years Boys:
The Westpac 13 Years Boys met Central Coast Thunder at home for the first time in the SYL competition. It was expected the match would be a tough contest. With a disrupted lead up, with many training sessions lost due to the recent wet weather, the FMNC boys started the game a bit rusty.

The boys were on the defensive for the opening part of the match and were obviously disappointed to be 1-0 down after Central Coast scored off a penalty. However they equalised in the first half after Jye Castellano chased down a ball to the Central Coast keeper who fumbled with Castellano tapping the ball with his left foot into the back of the net.

The second half saw a close tussle with FMNC failing to capitalise on several scoring opportunities and were particularly unlucky with a shot by Brandon Pincham just missing after hitting the crossbar. Central Coast won the game 2-1 with an excellent ball from a corner kick leading to a goal towards the end of the second half. One of the positives of the game for FMNC was Daniel Freeman putting in a very strong performance after returning from battling an injury in the preceding weeks.

The Westpac 14's got off to a slow start against the Central Coast Thunder last Sunday and thanks to some desperate scrambling in defense and some fine saves from FMNC keeper Grant Bulloch making an impressive return after injury kept the Thunder scoreless.

Once FMNC settled its chances started to come and from two set pieces, Mitch Yarnold delivered two pin point crosses, firstly for Blake Barnes-Riddell and then Adrian Futterlieb, both scoring from headers which gave FMNC a 2-0 half time lead.

The Thunder looked to strike back during the second half but it was the FMNC side which went on with things, Barnes-Riddell scoring twice for a well deserved hat-trick and Alex Turnbull scoring with a bullet like strike for final score of 5-0 to FMNC.

15 Years Boys:
After having a few weeks off with holidays and a washed out match, the Westpac FMNC Marlins 15 boys were itching to play. Game started fairly evenly, with both teams attacking. FMNC got the better of a rebound with a well struck ball from Brendan Berry for their first goal. Central Coast came back, but to no avail. FMNC 2nd goal came from the foot of Jarred Kohler with a cracking shot on target.

FMNC let their guard down and Central Coast fired the ball for a goal. 2 - 1. With 10 boys on the field Central Coast came back wanting to win even more, and with that scored again. 2-2. Again Central Coast was hungry and working as a team scored their 3rd goal. FMNC were lacking in team spirit. All the boys were trying to win this game individually, but to no avail.

Finally the boys got their heads on straight and worked together with a lovely high ball from Tom Griffin to David Maiolo who in turn headed the ball in. 3-3. At the final whistle FMNC drew with Central Coast Thunder 3-3.

WESTPAC FMNC SYL hit the road to take on Hunter Valley

The Westpac Football Mid North Coast State Youth League sides travel down to Cessnock to take on the strong Hunter Valley sides tomorrow. Weather permitting the SYL 13s, 14s & 15 enter its respective matches again with limited preparation with only one training session under its belts over the past three weeks due to the continuous rain fall. One saving grace is that a number of FMNC players have been in camp in Armidale during the week attending state trials which should see these players pumped and ready to perform tomorrow.

The Westpac FMNC 13s will be desperate to bring home the points and climb its way back up the ladder against a Hunter Valley side coming off a 3-2 win over Central Coast last start. FMNC are slowly finding its feet and now must find the consistency needed to compete at this level.

The Westpac 14's side has shown a strong fighting spirit throughout its trial's and opening two rounds but unfortunately this went out the window against Macquarie last round. The 14s need to find that drive and hunger to compete If they are to take any points off the Valley who knocked over Central Coast 3-2 last round. Again FMNC need the points to remain in touch.

Coming off a confidence building win over Macquarie last start the Westpac FMNC 15's are keen to increase the gap between it self and Hunter Valley. A win puts FMNC six points in front off tomorrow's opponents, The Valley coming off a solid win over the Central Coast in round 3 and will provide a tough match up for FMNC.

Match Reports:

WESTPAC SYL 13 Years Football Mid North Coast v Macquarie
The Westpac 13 years Boys traveled to Pacific Palms for their first match-up with Macquarie for the season.

Due to wet weather FMNC had been unable to train together for the week leading up to the game. However, FMNC started the game strongly and managed to create some opportunities up front early in the first half. Macquarie started to dominate later in the half and were leading 2-0 at half time. FMNC displayed good commitment after half-time and managed to strike back through a quality goal by Dean Rounsevell.

The second half proved to be an end to end affair with Macquarie scoring next. FMNC scored an additional 2 more goals in the half off the boot of Jye Castellano, who proved threatening all day in the striker role. Overall however the speed and precision of the Macquarie attack saw them score a total of 4 goals in the second half. The final score saw Macquarie win 6-3. The game reinforced the high quality of play required in the SYL and the FMNC boys will need to improve their consistency and effort to match their opposition throughout the season.

Westpac SYL 14s down to Macquarie
A very strong Macquarie side boasting at least five state players outplayed the Westpac 14 years FMNC SYL side with a comprehensive 4-1 win to the visitors from Newcastle. While FMNC can offer no excuses its preparation was severely affected, being unable to train for the week in the lead up to the match.

Being under done and with a few injuries the FMNC side started strongly and matched Macquarie early on. As the first half wore on Macquarie started to dominate FMNC right across the park and went ahead midway through the 1st half.

FMNC scrambled well to hold out Macquarie during the second half but a lack of enthusiasm and commitment from the home side saw Macquarie grab a second for a 2-0 lead. FMNC then came alive for a short stint and created a few chances of its own. A FMNC free kick from Jeremy Robinson was dangerously played in behind Macquarie defense falling to FMNC midfielder Ben McDonald who tapped in from close range. Another great cross from Robinson almost had FMNC back on level terms but unfortunately Alex Turnball narrowly missed with blistering shot.

FMNC fell apart late in the game for Macquarie to snatch two late goals, one an unfortunate own goal from a FMNC defender.

Westpac SYL 15s win in a grueling encounter
In a grand final replay from last season the Westpac 15 years FMNC side held out Macquarie to take the 3 points with a 2-1 win. In very physical encounter it was a very determined & committed FMNC with goals from Matt Moore & Tahwa Bowden that sealed the victory.

FMNC State Youth league takes on Macquarie this Sunday

The Westpac Football Mid North Coast State Youth league representative teams face another tough task this Sunday in the 3 round clash against Macquarie District from Newcastle.

All three of the FMNC side suffered narrow losses in last week's matches against Newcastle. The 13 & 14's going down 2-1 and the 15's having a 3-1 loss.

Macquarie has started strongly as expected in all three age groups winning away versus Central Coast and then at home to Hunter Valley last Sunday.

Unfortunately the local FMNC sides were unable to gain any return in its clashes with Newcastle and now must find some solid home form going into Sunday's games at Wayne Richards Park in Port Macquarie. While it is a tough task for the FMNC sides taking on the perennial top sides back to back it does provide a yardstick for FMNC to see where they are at so early in the season.

Kick Off times for Sunday:

MATCH REPORTS -
15 Years V Newcastle
The Westpac FMNC 15 boys knew that today would be a tough one and they were proven correct. From the minute the Referee blew his whistle for start of the match, Newcastle were on fire. After just 5 mins of play Newcastle had scored. The FMNC boys kept their heads held high, and had some encouraging moments with the ball with some shots at goals but were denied.

With a few changes on the field, Tahwa Bowden received the ball and had a shot at goal, the Newcastle goal keeper lost the ball. Luckily for FMNC Blake Clark was there to take advantage of the opportunity to score an easy goal. 1 - 1. Newcastle second goal came due to sloppy defence of the FMNC side. At 26 mins the Newcastle team scored again. 3 - 1. After half time FMNC tried everything but to no avail. Newcastle had slowed down. FMNC were lucky to keep Newcastle scoreless for the 2nd half. Full time Newcastle 3 - FMNC 1.

14 Years V Newcastle
Newcastle proved the step up in opposition that the Westpac FMNC 14s expected and unfortunately a couple of early errors saw Newcastle grab a 2-0 lead. Conceding the 2 goals was also compounded early on as changes due to injuries unsettled FMNC.

As the half wore on Newcastle continued to pressure but FMNC scrambled well in defence and for the second week in a row the 13 years 'keeper Thomas Rienstra backing up provided a number of fine saves to deny Newcastle.

FMNC took to the field for the second half with the objective to keep Newcastle from increasing its lead and a strong defensive effort from Alex Ihlow, Josh Phillips, Jeremy Robinson and Sarah O'Connor with Rienstra in goals managed to achieve this. The back playing out from the back managed to create a couple of opportunites for FMNC. One of these was from the left flank with a floated cross from Sarah O'Connor getting in behind the Newcastle backline which was pounced on by Nick Infield strongly holding off the defense to slot home a goal for FMNC. Final score 2-1 to Newcastle.

13 Years V Newcastle
The first home game of the season saw the Westpac FMNC 13s take on a very formidable opponent in Newcastle (who had won 4-0 in the first round against Hunter).

FMNC started strongly against their highly rated opposition and dominated the majority of the first half with some strong play and determined effort to control the ball. An early goal for FMNC scored by Jye Castellano seemed to unsettle Newcastle. The first half proved a tough contest with Newcastle scoring a long range goal very late in the half to equalise.

The struggle continued in the second half with an impressive display of committment by FMNC. They were unlucky not to pull ahead again with a shot by Jye Castellano hitting the post denying a goal to FMNC. There was some excellent work in defence for FMNC with Thomas Rienstra pulling of several excellent saves as goalkeeper, and with strong support from Andrew Moon and Liam Clarke managed to frustrate a Newcastle side used to dominating in attack . A goal by Newcastle later in the second half saw them go on to win but overall it was an impressive team effort by FMNC with all players really stepping up to the challenge.

Football Mid North Coast travelled to the Beautiful town of Armidale for its first round State Youth League encounter with Northern Inland. FMNC found the both the weather and the Armidale Sportsground in fine conditions which allowed for some very attractive football to be played coming home with 2 wins and a draw for a very satisfactory season opener.

This weeks opponents Newcastle Port-Stephens came away with 3 wins last weekend in its opening round matches with Hunter Valley. In the 13s Newcastle has a solid 4-1 win. Newcastle narrowly defeated Hunter Valley 1-0 in the 14s. Newcastle ran out 5-0 winners in the 15s.

MATCH REPORTS -

SYL 13 years Football Mid North Coast v Northern Inland 2-2 Draw
The FMNC 13 year boys travelled to Armidale Sports Ground to compete in their first game of the SYL season.

The team had a strong lead-up with good performances in several trial matches over the preceding weeks. Northern Inland proved to be strong opponents playing a physical tough game. After a nervous start the FMNC boys were down 1-0 after 15 minutes. The boys then showed greater commitment and began to use their speed and technical ability to create several opportunities up front. Playing with only one striker FMNC managed to create several breaks. One of these breaks resulted in a red card for a Northern Inland player when Jye Castellano was pushed in the back by a defender with only the goal keeper to beat. The first goal for FMNC was impressively scored by Callum Lewis following some terrific lead-up work with a display of deft passing by the team. In addition, Corey Nash continued to demonstrate his long range kicking ability just striking the crossbar off a free kick during the first half.

The second half continued well for FMNC resulting in a goal by Jye Castellano off a terrific cross from Dean Rounsevell from the right midfield. The Northern Inland boys showed great determination late in the second half and following some lapses in concentration by FMNC, Inland were able to equalise following a penalty kick despite valiant attempts at saves from Thomas Rienstra. Overall the game was a positive start to the season for FMNC with several periods of high quality play. However, they will need to continue to improve to take on their next opponents in the formidable Newcastle side at home next week.

SYL 14 years Football Mid North Coast v Northern Inland 7-0 win
The FMNC 14's pressured its Northern Inland opponent's right from the 1st minute of the match. FMNC went ahead around the 13 minute mark after some concentrated pressure was applied on the Inland defence with Mitch Yarnold stealing possession from around the half way mark and went on a solo run holding off a number of defenders to coolly slot home his sides opening goal.

This lifted FMNC and its strong passing game came to the fore which led to Blake Barnes-Riddell pouncing to score and give the side a 2-0 lead. Northern Inland created a couple of half chances but for most of the 1st half the FMNC defence held strong. Adam Whyte capitalised on a loose ball in the Inland penalty area with a strong shot finding the back of the net to see a 3-0 lead at half time to FMNC.

FMNC went 4-0 early in the 2nd half when defender Jeremy Robinson found space on the right spotting the Inland keeper of his line and let fly with a shot from 35 metres into the top left hand corner of the net. FMNC's 5th goal came from a strong run into the box from Adrian Futterleib to neatly slot his shot passed the keeper. Central defender Nick Infield linked well with his midfield and with a neat exchange of passing saw Infield appearing to effortlessly glide passed the Inland defence and drive a low shot into the near bottom corner of the net to put FMNC 6-0 up. Barnes-Riddell scored FMNC's 7th with another evasive run, dummying a cross and then driving his shot low past the keeper. A couple of brilliant saves from FMNC keeper Thomas Rienstra kept Northern Inland scoreless. Rienstra is actually the FMNC 13 year's keeper and backed up for his second full match on the day with a very impressive display. A solid start for the 14's but face an extremely tough match this weekend against Newcastle-Port Stephens.

SYL 15 years Football Mid North Coast v Northern Inland 3-0 win
FMNC 15yrs side arrived in the beautiful down town Armidale to take on Northern Inland.

It was the boy's first game for the season, and with pretty much the same team as last year they were firing to go. From the blow of the Referees whistle to start play, the boys were passing the ball like seasoned professionals.

In the 6th minute midfielder Alistair Sinclair struck a nice, firm well timed shot to find the back of the net - 1 nil to FMNC. The boys again started passing the ball around with several shots on goal taken, but to no avail.

Twenty minutes into the game Brendan Berry received the ball on the far side of the field and passed to Tom Griffin who was ready to place the ball in the back of the net - 2 nil to FMNC. By this stage the boys were pumping. Half time came after 35 mins. The boys went back out on the field ready to go. But Northern Inland played over FMNC but was unlucky not to get a goal. In the 69th minute Jarred Kohler received the ball and had a cracker shot which found the back of the net. 3 nil to FMNC. It was all over with a win to FMNC.

Congratulations to the boys on their first win. You ALL played well.

The region's top young football players get their chance to match it with the best in the State when the State Youth League (SYL) kicks off on Sunday with the local Football Mid North Coast (FMNC) sides traveling to Armidale to take on Northern Inland.

A huge coup for the Mid North Coast outfit is the securing of Westpac as major sponsor for the 2008 season. As major sponsor the Westpac name is emblazoned across the newly introduced Black & White playing strip of Football Mid North Coast.

Westpac's support for the FMNC 2008 SYL campaign as well as minor sponsorship from Powerade (Coca-Cola) has the FMNC sides raring to go.

The Northern New South Wales Football Federation run competition involves 6 regional Zones, stretching from the Central Coast, Newcastle, Mid North Coast and inland to Tamworth and Armidale.

For the 2008 SYL Competition, Football Mid North Coast has entered sides for boys 13, 14, 15 years age groups.

A weather interrupted start to the early preseason preparation culminated in a heavy schedule in the past couple of weeks with the FMNC sides involved in a number of preseason trails against Broadmeadow Magic, North Coast & Central Coast Thunder.

Another boost for the FMNC sides was the recent visit of Jade North the Newcastle Jets Championship winning captain. North only this week also wore the captains armband for the Socceroos in the international friendly with Singapore. North's visit to a FMNC training session had him working with the SYL squads and he also spoke with the players on what is required to get to the top.

The FMNC SYL squads encompass players from all across the Football Mid North Coast Zone's footprint of Bulladelah & Gloucester in the south to South West Rocks & Kempsey in the North incorporating The Great Lakes, Taree, Hastings & Macleay regions.

After securing 2nd spot last season the 2008 15 years side with most of the squad remaining intact is quietly confident without being over confident going into the season opener.
15 years squad: Kyle Predebon, Matt Moore, Sam Mahoney, Tahwa Bowden, Alistair Sinclair, Reece Rayner, Chad Applegate, Brendan Berry, Blake Clark, Tom Griffin, Jarred Kohler, Dave Maiolo, Adrian Walker, Mitch Whalen, Steve Rayner (coach) , Rick Clarke (manager)

With only 6 players from last years squad this seasons 14 years team is still finding it's feet but showed plenty of potential in preseason trials but now must step up the to the required levels of the SYL competition.
14 Years Squad: Blake Barnes-Riddell, David Bourne (c), Grant Bulloch, Adrian Futterlieb, Alex Ihlow, Nicholas Infield, Ben McDonald, Sarah O'Connor, Josh Phillips, Jeremy Robinson, Moshe Uhrig, Adam Whyte, Mitchell Yarnold, Alex Turnbull, Gregg McDonald (coach)

The 13 years squad like the 14's must lift to playing at the higher levels that the SYL competition presents.
13 years Squad: Jye Castellano, Liam Clarke, Daniel Freeman, Aaron Grose, Adam Hancey, Joshua Johnston, Max Johnson, Callum Lewis (c), Andrew Moon, Corey Nash, Brandon Pincham, Thomas Rienstra, Dean Rounsevell, Nicholas Sawyer, Steve Pincham (coach), Anthony Clarke (Manager)

FMNC first home game of the season is on Sunday week (6th April) at Wayne Richards Park in Port Macquarie taking on Newcastle-Port Stephens and again will be at home for round 3 up against Macquarie on April 13th.

Kick off times for the season are - 13yrs: 10.00am, 14yrs: 11.30am, 15 years: 1.00pm

Competing Zones: Football Mid North Coast, Newcastle-Port Stephens, Macquarie, Hunter Valley, Central Coast and Northern Inland (Combined North West/Tamworth & New England/Armidale).
