How To Become a Referee 2007
According to FFA instructions, 14 years is the minimum age for official referees.
Candidates must first purchase a Level 5 book, FIFA's Laws of the Game book and the DVD (if/when it becomes available), from the Referees Association, cost $25.
Candidates will study these resources, attend a Level 5 seminar and then complete the Level 5 exam.
Once they have passed this exam, candidates must join a referees association and also the FFA by completing the FFA Application for Registration of Match Officials. If young referees are under 18 years of age, this form must be signed by a parent. The form comprises 5 carbon copies which go to various different authorities.
On receipt of this completed form, the FFA will send a log book to the young referee to indicate his/her acceptance as a referee Australia-wide.
It is only after a successful inspection of the referee's practical skills in a non-competitive match that the candidate will be promoted to Level 4. The referee can now be appointed to official matches.
All referees must now carry a notebook to serve as a diary/journal. When referees are inspected, the inspector will use the notebook to record positive features, advice, corrections, criticisms, etc, from which the referee can improve his/her skills and potentially qualify for Level 3, 2, etc.
All Levels 1-5 are part of Development Programs and must do further study and exercises in their respective FFA Resource Manuals.
All referees must complete Child Protection Declaration and fill in an Availability Form.
Further information regarding these and other changes may be acquired from Yalcin Toker 6583 4152 or Martin Ring 6567 1410
