2009 FMNC Representative Structure
Updated info - Youth League/Dev Squads muster dates

2009 will see a variation in the structure of the FMNC Representative scene.

The Federation is no longer willing to conduct an SYL competition. In its place will be two separate competitions run in tandem. The Regional Youth League and the NNSW Football Regional Championships. The age groups for both competitions will be 13,14,15 boys and 15 girls.

The Development squads will continue as before with 11 and 12 boys and 11 and 13 girls.

REGIONAL YOUTH LEAGUE
This competition will include the following Zones:-
Hunter Valley
Macquarie
Mid North Coast - two teams
Newcastle
Central Coast

It will be a three round weekly competition played over 15 weeks on a home and away basis (no decision has yet been made on whether or not to have semis) and conducted on Sundays. It is being conducted by the Newcastle Combined Zones and we are playing in the competition by invitation. This competition will be structured around the Federation run Regional Championships

FMNC will have one of its squads based in Port Macquarie and one in the Manning,
Great Lakes area. There will be no restrictions placed on where Zone players wish to participate.

Players may play for Clubs independently of Representative duty, but on the basis that their first and main commitment is to the Zone Teams.

NORTHERN NSW REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
This competition will include the following Zones:
Hunter Valley
Macquarie
Mid North Coast - one team
Newcastle
North Coast
Northern Inland

It will be played on average (this is an average only) every three weeks on a Sunday, 10 matches on a home and away basis.

Our team in this competition will be selected from our Youth League teams on a weekly/monthly basis as required.

Negotiations and planning for both competitions is still a work in progress. A draft draw for the NNNSW Regional Championships will be available shortly.

David Lee - Coaches Association Clinic

All coaches,  please be aware of this visit by David Lee to our Zone.

David is a former DOC of NSW State, and has many other 'feathers in his footballing cap'. He will visit FMNC on Sunday 10th August to meet with coaches, between 10.00am and approximately 12noon. The venue will be the FMNC Zone Field Taree, in behind the Manning Aquatic Centre.

Unfortunately this is an SYL day, so I am aware this won't suit our Zone Coaches, and parents involved with the squads, and do apologise.

However, I am aware that our recent FMNC Coaches Association meetings have discussed active Club Coaching Co-ordinators at each Club within our Zone. Bearing this in mind, I have asked David to target his presentation at a group with this level of expertise. The aim is to offer this program to our prominent Club Coaches, and then encourage our people to spread it through their own Clubs.

David is preparing a session about coaching techniques, as well as motivation and mental preparation for teenaged footballers.

I would like to extend the invitation to Club Coaching Co-ordinators, and any other skilled coaches from all Clubs to attend this session.

Please express your interest via email at: FMNC.coach@gmail.com
This session will be free of charge.

When to introduce 11v11

Ray Hall the EVERTON WAY
Everton Football club Academy

Ray Hall's Profile
Ray's primary role is to lead a team involved in all aspects of youth development from 7-19 years. In particular, the organisation of the department in terms of finance, facilities, staffing (full-time/part-time), policies, research and development, planning, care/welfare, education provision/ liaison with schools and establishing good lines of communication with all areas across the whole youth development structure

The debate on when to introduce 11v11 in youth football has been running for years; and it's clear that FA's across the continent have different opinions on when the best time is.

Here in England, 11v11 can't be introduced until the age of 10. Germany wait until 12, France and Sweden bring it in at 13 and Spain leave it until 14 years old.

The FA's development office are keen to push the age up in England to 11, allowing the younger players to be involved in small-sided games for longer, which they expect will improve development.

This is more in keeping with our philosophy. At Everton we don't introduce 11v11 until the under 12's, giving our young players the chance to develop naturally into a full-sided game.

We start them out between the ages of 6 and 8 in 4v4 games. Soon they'll move on to 6v6, before joining the 8v8 programme at under-9 when they are eligible to sign for the club. This natural progression gives the players the chance to take lots of touches, make lots of tackles and score lots of goals as they develop.

At the back end of 10 years old we'll start the transition to 11v11 so they're prepared for a full switch at under 12. Because the development has been so gradual and progressive, by the time the players get to under 12, they are more than ready for the full game.

And during the 12's programme the competitive element is kept to a minimum. We don't enter a competitive league programme until under 18, because it's all about developing the players; and to do that, we need to be able to shape the match situation and develop certain areas of their game. The natural competitiveness of the players comes through in development matches against other Academies like Manchester Utd and Liverpool. This allows us to experiment. We can put players in a range of positions to give them a good array of experience across the pitch. We can also see how they cope in the variety of positions too.

As an Academy, our main focus is to produce players who are ready to compete at the highest level, where the results do matter. It's important we get those players technically developed in order to do this.

Westpac invests in youth football

WESTPAC INVESTS IN YOUTH FOOTBALL AS MAJOR SPONSOR
FOR THE FMNC STATE YOUTH LEAGUE

The region's top young football players get their chance to match it with the best in the State when the State Youth League (SYL) kicks off on Sunday with the local Football Mid North Coast (FMNC) sides traveling to Armidale to take on Northern Inland.

A huge coup for the Mid North Coast outfit is the securing of Westpac as major sponsor for the 2008 season. As major sponsor the Westpac name is emblazoned across the newly introduced Black & White playing strip of Football Mid North Coast.

Westpac's support for the FMNC 2008 SYL campaign as well as minor sponsorship from Powerade (Coca-Cola) has the FMNC sides raring to go.

The Northern New South Wales Football Federation run competition involves 6 regional Zones, stretching from the Central Coast, Newcastle, Mid North Coast and inland to Tamworth and Armidale.

For the 2008 SYL Competition, Football Mid North Coast has entered sides for boys 13, 14, 15 years age groups.

A weather interrupted start to the early preseason preparation culminated in a heavy schedule in the past couple of weeks with the FMNC sides involved in a number of preseason trails against Broadmeadow Magic, North Coast & Central Coast Thunder.

Another boost for the FMNC sides was the recent visit of Jade North the Newcastle Jets Championship winning captain. North only this week also wore the captains armband for the Socceroos in the international friendly with Singapore. North's visit to a FMNC training session had him working with the SYL squads and he also spoke with the players on what is required to get to the top.

The FMNC SYL squads encompass players from all across the Football Mid North Coast Zone's footprint of Bulladelah & Gloucester in the south to South West Rocks & Kempsey in the North incorporating The Great Lakes, Taree, Hastings & Macleay regions.

After securing 2nd spot last season the 2008 15 years side with most of the squad remaining intact is quietly confident without being over confident going into the season opener.
15 years squad: Kyle Predebon, Matt Moore, Sam Mahoney, Tahwa Bowden, Alistair Sinclair, Reece Rayner, Chad Applegate, Brendan Berry, Blake Clark, Tom Griffin, Jarred Kohler, Dave Maiolo, Adrian Walker, Mitch Whalen, Steve Rayner (coach) , Rick Clarke (manager)

With only 6 players from last years squad this seasons 14 years team is still finding it's feet but showed plenty of potential in preseason trials but now must step up the to the required levels of the SYL competition.
14 Years Squad: Blake Barnes-Riddell, David Bourne (c), Grant Bulloch, Adrian Futterlieb, Alex Ihlow, Nicholas Infield, Ben McDonald, Sarah O'Connor, Josh Phillips, Jeremy Robinson, Moshe Uhrig, Adam Whyte, Mitchell Yarnold, Alex Turnbull, Gregg McDonald (coach)

The 13 years squad like the 14's must lift to playing at the higher levels that the SYL competition presents.
13 years Squad: Jye Castellano, Liam Clarke, Daniel Freeman, Aaron Grose, Adam Hancey, Joshua Johnston, Max Johnson, Callum Lewis (c), Andrew Moon, Corey Nash, Brandon Pincham, Thomas Rienstra, Dean Rounsevell, Nicholas Sawyer, Steve Pincham (coach), Anthony Clarke (Manager)

FMNC first home game of the season is on Sunday week (6th April) at Wayne Richards Park in Port Macquarie taking on Newcastle-Port Stephens and again will be at home for round 3 up against Macquarie on April 13th.

Kick off times for the season are - 13yrs: 10.00am, 14yrs: 11.30am, 15 years: 1.00pm

Competing Zones: Football Mid North Coast, Newcastle-Port Stephens, Macquarie, Hunter Valley, Central Coast and Northern Inland (Combined North West/Tamworth & New England/Armidale).

Trenter new Coaching Director

TO say Mark Trenter has football in his blood is an understatement. But, the man who donned a Wales' under 21 representative jumper, took the field for West Bromwich Albion in the English Premier League and has spent the past 20 years involved in local soccer would not have it any other way.

Now, Trenter is preparing for another phase in his illustrious career - as Football Mid-North Coast's director of coaching.

"My role, for the next 18 months, is to implement a philosophy of football that is in line with the fast growth of the world game here in Australia," he told the Port News. "I'll be working closely with all coaches to ensure that the best coaching techniques are passed on to our participating players. The game can be played in many different ways and I'll endeavour to stimulate our coaches with methods that will assist them and, therefore, produce a more developed player."

And, Trenter has much to pass onto his counterparts... if his background is anything to go by. "In many respects, football is my life," he said. "Sydney FC part-owner and Football Federation Australia chairman Frank Lowy brought me over in the late 1970s. I joined Sydney City Hakoah (now Sydney FC) and played in three grand finals - 1979, 1980 and 1981. I was then drafted into the Australian squad, however I was deemed ineligible since I represented Wales. Locally, I've been involved with Port United, as a player and coach."

"Football is set to grow even more in the coming years, thanks to the A-League, the National Youth League (which kicks off in 2009) and guys like Lowy. He is a very passionate man, who puts a lot into the code."

Football Mid-North Coast encompasses the Great Lakes, Manning, Camden Haven, Hastings and Macleay areas. "There are 5000 registered players in the zone," Trenter admitted. "My first 'official' task is tomorrow night at Wayne Richards Park in Port Macquarie. I'’m meeting with the Football Mid-North Coast State Youth League co-ordinator Kayleen Buckman, as well as the coaches and players of the boys' 13, 14 and 15 and girls' 16 age groups."

"We want people to play in the A-League and for Australia. That’s what it's all about."
